Alpha + Inwood project plans to bring apartments, retail, hotel to Galleria neighborhood

A major mixed-use development in the works west of the Galleria Dallas would be the largest such project in that area in more than a decade.

The 14-acre development at Inwood and Alpha roads in Farmers Branch would replace a vacant big box retail store on the west side of the Dallas North Tollway.

Called Alpha + Inwood, the project is planned to include a combination of apartments, retail and restaurant space, a boutique hotel and an office building taking up a full block.

Bridgeview Real Estate, Transition Development and apartment builder JPI are working on the 745,000-square-foot development.

The 4-story apartment buildings would contain 406 rental units and would be constructed in the first phase.

“It’s a mixed-use opportunity we like with the hotel and retail and residential,” said JPI senior vice president Matt Brendel.

He said the concept is similar to the mixed-use West Love development on Mockingbird Lane in Dallas where JPI is building urban apartments.

Brendel said the area around the Dallas Galleria is seeing renewed activity.

“The work on Interstate 635 is complete,” he said. “And all the office around there is getting new investment.”

Owners of the nearby Galleria Towers office buildings are spending more than $16 million to upgrade the properties.

And behind the Galleria in the Dallas Midtown district, developers are building new hotels, apartments and planning further mixed-used projects.

Along with JPI’s apartments, the Alpha + Inwood development is designed to include a 7-story, 204,970-square-foot office building on the corner.

South and west of the office building the project will include five restaurant and retail buildings and a 5-story, 155-room hotel.

There are also two parking garages to serve the entire development.

JPI’s apartment would be built on the south side of the project along Simonton Road.

O’Brien Architecture and StudioOutside designed the development.

The planned Alpha + Inwood development is the largest such project planned for that area of Farmers Branch since the nearby Broadstone Parkway complex was built almost 10 years ago. That project includes 333 luxury apartments and almost 40,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
